like, is there a quick button or hotkey that sends your fleet back to the current homebase? why else would there be use for selecting a homebase.

Click on a fleet and look for the circular arrow in the upper left corner of the fleet window/interface/ui.

i just checked in game, and in 2.0 it only says return to nearest allied starbase / own starbase. meaning that its not going to the homebase of the fleet.

it says that but it lies. My fleets always go home when I press it.

If I press the return button, my fleet always flys right to what base I set as homebase. Which is kinda annoying since more then once I just wanted them to fly to the nearest outpost/starbase for quick repairs instead of retreating 10 sectors back into my space. Don't know if I have to adjust to the new "return" button or if Paradox might have to tweak it a bit for oldskool convenience.

Construction/transport/science ships however seem to fly "oldskool" to the next starbase they see.

Return will cause them to go their home station. Repair/upgrade will cause them to go to the closest station they can repair/upgrade at.
