i think they expect you to have multiple fleets placed over your empire to make quick reactions to events.

How long do you think it would actually take to cross an interstellar empire? In many sci-fi universes featuring empires the size of Stellaris, when releaf forces actually arrive from one end of the galaxy to the other, they find themselves fighting (or restarting) a war that ended years ago.

Given FTL, anywhere from a few seconds to hundreds of years. It depends on the FTL, which at this point is still imaginary.

In a game, you want to have fun. It's not good to have mechanics that make the game unfun. Since the FTL is imaginary, the designers can set the travel speed to pretty much anything, so they just need to make it fit both game balance and fun as best as possible.

I'm not too annoyed by the new travel speed, but I admit that it's a bit more inconvenient than it used to be.

the problem is that i cant restart the war i have to sit there doing nothing and i cant because fleet are so costly to maintain and so slow to build and move its ridiculous....

i feel like playing low tech 40k

Now sublight speed greatly effects FTL travel. You have to cross every star system to get to then next hyperlane entry point. Hyperdrive tech is less relevant then sublight propulsion. Most of the time is spent at sublight speed now.
For a rapid response fleet you want best thrusters + afterburners (yes, they are useful now) + admiral with bonus to sublight speed (Scout, I think) and ofc best Hyperdrive.

Also, don't we like 40K?

We like 40k but in 40 K the whole fluff is wonki with randomness and bizarro tech so its k.

and every ship i build have twin afterburner+best hypeerdrive and i have yet to arrive in time for battle in 2450

plus doomstack are still not fixed 16k fleet taking barely any loses from a 14k fleet look ridiculous and they have the same compo the same build just a few ship less...

balance of space battle is still doomstakcing the ennemy
