Raiding Fleets
So im 55 years into a game and i have a 6.5k pirate fleet destroying all my outposts and was wondering if anyone else was seeing how unbalanced this is.

Yeah, it's broken as hell. They're rampaging across my game with 6-12k fleets nobody can even slow down, wrecking everything in their path. They definitely need to scale better.

Its the usual scaling system, don't worry 6.5k over here is going to feel your pain in a few years.

my homeworld's station and 2 defense platforms + my strongest fleet managed to destroy one corvette at the cost of everything i had. ripped straight through my territory with plasma weapons while i was still researching railguns. i thought "ok, ♥♥♥♥ you too" and tried to rebuild only for them to come back and repeat the process. i evacuated my fleet, only to have them chase it down.

Yeah i think only their numbers/ship types scale, their components seem to be static and a mid game level. On the plus side you will start melting them pretty quick once you finish those railguns, get like lvl 2 rails and lvl 3 shields/armour and you can beat them the way they just beat you.

i've taken a break for a while because my neighbors already hate me and they look like they're licking their lips with my 1st fleet gone. i'll try again later and hope for better results. i could've recovered from the loss if the 2 empires next to me didn't suddenly become REALLY active as soon as my military power was halved.

Hey but they leave your starbase with 1 HP left, isn't that nice?

Yeah so.. 60 years in, I had a choke point that I had invested huge amounts of resources upgrading and defending with maxed out starbase and a full set of defense platforms. 8k Marauding fleet shows up and destroys it while taking hardly any damage. I destroyed 1 frigate. Now it's coming for all my other less well-guarded systems and my fleet combined is maybe 4k. And since defense platforms work like ships, my starbase is now pathetically weak again, even after repairing.

Also the raiders came from a direction that they shouldn't have had easy access to, which is weird. Do they spawn in? Do they completely ignore borders of other empires?

edit: Turns out that they were called in against a neighbor and just decided to carve an inefficient path of destruction across my empire.

perhaps its bugged, in my game i have 2 marauder empires, one is attacking me the whole time.

3 of its fleets (8-13k) were buchering through my sectors and i couldnt anything, only to rebuild the damage.

the fourth 13k fleet i could destroy, because my main system had a t3 starbase with 12 defense platforms and with a 3k defense fleet.

my fleet and starbase were beaten, but the fleet could regroup in the neighbor system and killed the last 2k, the defense stations were lost

now the next 13k fleet of the other marauder empire is invading

and when i try to hire them, i every time get the message they are already raiding or are resting from last raid.

thats really not funny

Also doesn't help that they have regenerative hull tech, so I can't even wear them down properly

now the first marauder empire is invading too, so i have two 13k fleets in my Empire...
oh and i forgot a normal pirate fleet with 1,6k and their base spawned together with the first marauder fleet.

Yeah it sucks pretty early game. The worst part is when pirates are going to attack a target but are going through your space and pillaging all along the way and then doing it again on the way back.
Off-Suit Nines Feb 24, 2018 @ 11:13pm
You need to have a decent standing fleet in the early game now, and a good Admiral to boot. No more econ-only builds. It may be a rough transition but the pirates are very handleable even on higher difficulties.
