Hyperlane density
Is there a way to change the density step from 0.25 to something like 0.1 or 0.05? I feel like the perfect hyperlane density lies somewhere between 0.75 and 1 with 1 having way too many connections and distinct lack of clusters and 0.75 simply being just a trail of systems.

I want to have "islands" with possibly only 1-5 entrances. Can't really support 15 citadels.

I tried changing the

"num_hyperlanes = { min=0.5 max= 5 }" to a value I want as well as trying to change "num_hyperlanes_default = 1" but it seems that the density step is not part of map setup scenarios.

Also doing this screws up checksum.

It's also going to depend on galaxy size and shape. I tried a couple games on a 1000 4 arm spiral galaxy with 0.5 density and there are many such branches (or islands) of systems off the main arm strings.

You are right. It works with 4 arm spiral galaxies. Spiral galaxies have just one annoying disadvantage that they are spirals. I really would want regular ellipse galaxy with reasonable number of chokepoints and strategic lanes.

Yeah... You can change in your local settings.txt num_hyperlanes (under galaxy_config_sp) to anything you want and it will show in new game screen like that, but it doesn't actually work. It seems to be rounded to the closest 0.25 step during galaxy generation, so at num_hyperlanes=0.875 you get complete anarchy like you get with 1.0 without any strategic points, and at num_hyperlanes=0.850 you get a bowl of spaghetti identical to 0.75...

THIS SUCKS!:angry_creep:

I also tried to get what OP is describing but the current settings dont seem to allow for it, I think what we need is a 'scattering/noise' slider so we can use hyperlanes 1 and some random areas with a different setting.

Examples would be hyperlanes 1 and scattering 0.25 = most areas on the map are using the 1 value with 0.25 thrown in ever so often. This would generate more islands/groups of systems. Another would be hyperlanes 1 and scattering 2-3, normal map with hub systems thrown in that connect to a bunch of systems.

What we have now is a too even option, its either fairly well connected or its single lines all over, we need some more randomness in it.
