On your Starbase near the star in the system.

I kind of miss being able to upgrade my utility ships.

Did not notice you cannot upgrade your utility ships...all my science ships had shields early on...that blows if true

I'm looking at my main starbase and I can't see where to build construction ships or science ships. I have some corvettes ands thats it... help?

nevermind, I've found it.
For anyone who might be slightly confused, it's not the 'starbase' around your system, but instead the 'spaceport' that you can access by clicking on your planet, like it was before 2.0

Geez, I looked all over and couldn't figure this out. At least I'm not the only one out there who is confused. They really shouold get rid of the spaceport on your planet to avoid the confusion. Or at least be able to build science/construction ships from the starbase.

To be fair I found upgrading ultility ships kind of redundant. It was nearly always a case of just ading the newest engines/upgrades to them by default. About the only choice you had was the armour/shield division you went with. Otherwise there wasn't really any reason not to upgrade them to the latest tech you had.

I can see that as a good and sane reason to remove that layer of player management.

The only way it could come back is if we gained a slew of optional civilian focused upgrade choices or if weaponsing them became viable (at present there isn't really even any point putting any defensive guns or weapons onto them as a single loan ship can't stand up to much unless its a high class warship

I just always liked naming all of my ship classes. I'm really bummed that I can't do that anymore....

You don't need to upgrade them. The default setting is for them to auto-upgrade. (For example, I picked up the sensor range expansion tech, and my science ships could instantly see further - I didn't have to bring them into the base to upgrade them.)

For science ship's that's a very senible thing. I recall researching range upgrades and all, but my science ships were WAY out from my empire. So they'd only ever get upgraded if one got destroyed (thus freeing up a scientist slot). Otherwise it just wasn't worth bringing them all the way back home by that stage.

Build an outpost. Upgrade it. Add on a shipyard add-on.

Shipyards are star base modules. Upgrade an outpost to a star base, install shipyard modules.
You can install multiple ones to build more then 1 ship at once too.
