All of my saved races are gone? (RESOLVED)
I had made many carefully designed custom races, not just for myself but for AI empires to play against. Now they are all gone, even changing ALLOW_EMPIRE_DESIGN_CHEATS = yes in the defines file doesn't allow them to show, but the file in the documents folder with your savegames and such show they still exist.

I am fairly sure they followed the default restrictions, but even if they didn't changing that line in the 00_defines.txt should have resolved that, I think?

Any ideas?

EDIT:
The problem is, for some reason, some of my folders in my Documents folder were being synced to OneDrive cloud service (default part of windows10) so Stellaris was getting it's data from there and not my local hard drive.

EDIT2:

Alright, I believe I have resolved the issue. I recently reinstalled Windows 10, and I'm guessing the very latest Windows 10 installers default to your Documents, Desktop, and Pictures folder being saved/synced to OneDrive, or perhaps I missed something during install. Why only Stellaris and The Witcher 3 were using the One Drive version of my Documents folder and none of the other 14ish Steam games I have installed are, I have no clue.

This also probably explains the weird latency I was experiencing when using my Steam Link, and some erratic download speeds, since OneDrive defaults to having no limit to the amount of bandwidth it uses.

To check or fix this issue:
NOTE: Please read all steps before you do anything, to be safe. This should work to the best of my knowledge, and worked for me, but if you choose to do so, it's on you.

1. Right Click Star Menu Button -> Select File Explorer -> Locate OneDrive folder -> Double Click to open
You will then see what files and folders that being uploaded to the OneDrive cloud there, if any. If you do not wish to use One Drive or have certain files there, Copy or Cut all the files to a safe location to one of your local drives.

2. If OneDrive does not show on task bar (by clock), it will be on your start menu or you can type "one" into your search bar by the start menu. It will open the One Drive folder and load the application.

3. After a few moments a onedrive icon should appear on the task bar by the clock. It looks like a cloud. Right click it and select settings (if the options are greyed out, make sure syncing is not paused since it greys the options out)

4. Select the "Auto Save" tab at the top, and it will show Desktop, Documents, and Pictures and if they are being saved to "OneDrive" or "This PC only" so if you do not wish to use OneDrive, change them all to This PC Only, and if you wish, select the "Settings" tab and uncheck start OneDrive automatically.

5. Now you'll need to be careful and check the file dates of folders and files to see if the OneDrive versions are newer than any duplicates that may exist locally on your computer. The three folders discussed above will be located in your Users\Username\ folder. Probably on your C: drive. If the OneDrive versions are newer, copy them from the backup folder you made in step 1. Also, if you Desktop was being synced to OneDrive, after you disable it, your desktop my blank out. If so just move the files from your backed up Desktop folder to your local one. You'll probably need to rearrange your layout if it's not default.

Hope this helps anyone else who may have this or a similar issue.

Surely they could have just been made invalid until being updated! What a waste of a lot of time!
I don’t know, something about 2.0 must have changed race mechanics. You can read the patch notes to find out spefically what may have made your races outdated. In the meantime, recreating them is the best option..
