Taking over a planet.
I have played this game a lot, and I am curious if anyone knows a way, other than a planet killer, to remove the population from planets you conquer in wars? I really hate having to deal with all the bs that comes after you've conquered them. I miss being able to purge a planets population from previous updates...

I'm pretty sure you can still purge if you set that population to undesirable in the species window (by setting the rights for that species), does this not work for you?

I have tried that but they just sit there as unemployed pops creating crime and such.

You can purge or make them live stock. This does take time as mass genocide requires alot of logistics.

Also if you have apocalypse DLC, you can burn the planet of all xeno life and just move in :D

There are also multiple purge types depending on your empire, the wiki has a big list but it depends on DLC as well (specifically synthetic dawn if you are a machine intelligence and utopia if you are not), you should have "extermination" as long as you are not a devouring swarm (in which case you are already purging them because that's what the swarm does on its own).

Their happiness goes down the drain as you would expect with extermination but it gets rid of them 6 times as fast as the default "displacement".
Utopia-specific options are fairly good because they go down while producing a lot of resources at the cost of only being half as fast as "extermination" (still 3 times faster than "displacement").

Play as xenophobe to unlock all the good purge types. Other than that the best you can do is knock the housing down to -10 and then expell the excess population via the decisions menu in addition to regular displacement.

Note that you have to make sure to set a species' citizenship to 'undesirable' in order for them to be eligible to be purged. I recommend adjusting the default species rights to this if you want to get rid of all/most aliens that you conquer.

Check for 'Undesirable' status and purge type in species rights manager. If you want to do this without hurting your relations with other empires then use only 'displacement' or 'neutering' type. You don't need any migration treaty for 'displacement', it just happens.
Also Pop Decline Speed is per-planet so you should relocate few of undesirable pops to your other planets to raise overall decline speed. Don't keep them all on their single planet, instead spread them around your empire with 2-3 pops/planet
Also if you don't mind a bit of mouse clicking - you can sell them as slaves while they are purged. Sometimes other empires buy them, it speeds the process too

Another solution I read on forums - if you have a Fallen Empire with Gaia obsessiveness you can colonize one of their holy worlds and relocate all unwanted pops there. FE will burn them for you free of cost.

Just got done wiping out an enemy. Ended up with one planet which had no buildings or population left - just like a new planet. Had another one turn into a tomb world. Used two big fleets to planetary bombard them both and had Titan troops.
