Can't stop supporting independence
I had set the option to support the independence of a small group. Now they joined a federation and it will not let me remove it. The option to stop supporting has disappeared from the option screen. So now I can't declare War on them or the Federation as it says that I am supporting their independence. Is there anyway around this?

Did you try to declare war on the overlord in the federation? I haven't seen that myself, but...

I tried declaring war on every member of the federation.

Unless you're willing to edit the save file, I'm thinking this is a bug you can't work around otherwise, and should load from it happened. Haven't seen it happen in my own games, so I can't say for certain of there is no workaround.

From the looks of it, it seems to me more like a Development Error. It seems once a empire joins a Federation, you can't support independence. In which case, they removed the dialog. In my case, the Federation was made up of mostly single system Empires that came out of the larger empires. I did find a work around but risky. You have to make them hostile and declare War on you. I unfortunately had to disband all of my fleets so that they had superior fleet power than me.

Look for the subject of a federation member that you once supported independence for, is the federation. Then check the diplomatic window and revoke the independence guarantee. Then you should be able to declare war on any federation member.

Why are you answering to an post from 1,5 years ago? There were plenty of patches in between.

This. Thank you zalh81 for answering when you did. Still a problem 3 years and multiple builds later with this thread being the first thing that comes up in google.

It is now 2023 and this is still the best answer to the problem.

Just another bump to the thread that this "feature" is still present, and this is still the correct way to work around it.
