Grand Herald in early game
Hello, everybody,

I find the Grand Herald Titan in the early game (year 2249) slightly exaggerated. If you play the game on Admiral as Determined Exterminator, you already have enough to do and it is superfluous to fight against an enemy empire with a 6K Titan if you have a 1.4 corvette fleet.

Haven't encountered it yet myself, but just from the sound of it somebody clearly didn't think that event through very well. Worst part of it for me is that the Grand Herald apparently keeps breaking with NSC2, and as an emergency fix the modders reverted Titans to the vanilla 3 sections instead of 4... I'm used their modded appearance, the Fungoid Titan just looks ridiculous now.

The Herald basically makes one empire "the boss" until the 2300s roll through.

it's an early crisis event if your FP neighbour gets it 20 years in
but it's good story, and enough corvettes *will* rekk it.

Makes for a wonderful SDF-Macross story though.

40+ corvettes with shield/armour penetrating weapons solved that problem for me rather well. Lost most of the corvettes though but it was awesome.

Nothing like an impromptu early-game crisis courtesy of your friendly neighborhood purifiers.

I love those guys when I'm playing pacifist, it's like a no holds barred wardec on them. Anyone else I have to wait for them to hit me (or "liberate" them). For swarm and purifiers, it's like a free lunch.

Ive seen people mention that the titan can easily be destroyed by a fleet of corvettes half its strength if it is caught unsupported.

The problem with the Grand Herald isn't the AI getting it. If they AI gets it, you can easily counter it by building your ships right.

The problem is if the player gets it, the game is basically over. You get to make tributaries of everyone around you, and by 2300 you'll be collecting 600+ credits and minerals from tributes.

It is pretty OP. I've gotten it twice when running a Barbaric Despoiler/Nihilistic Acquisition run. I spent the next 100 years circling the galaxy from nation to nation, abducting all their pops and force-laboring them to death.

After 20 years you haven't 40+ corvettes (and the tech) to defeat it. So the enemy will steam roll you in two waves and thats it.

If you go supremacy and build foundries (like you're supposed to), 40 corvettes is something you should have by 2215.

20 years in you should easily be able to defeat the GH.

If you go wide, you should have at least a fleet of some 40-50 Corvettes.

If you don't have Disruptors, go for Rockets. It has 0 point defence and only T and L slots.

Don't be afraid to go over the naval cap, as you will lose ships during this engagement.

If it is coming to you, set your fleet on the jump point it will arrive through, so it spawns right on top of your fleet. You are most vulnerable on the approach.

strength in numbers i guess, too many targets for it to handle.

they also made the ship require 25k engineering research to restore to the 6k power
