Wormholes: does exploring one reveal it to all empires?
Hi :)

I've just been involved in another war with a neighbouring empire, during the course of which I sent a scout ship to explore a wormhole in his territory. The wormhole linked through to a system in an an empire that's allied (by federation) to me. Before I knew it, my enemy (who had had no scout ships anywhere near either wormhole exit around that time) suddenly made a push for the wormhole system in his neck of the woods, and then on through to my ally's space.

I had assumed that scouting a wormhole would only reveal that knowledge to my empire -- and perhaps allies? -- but never to an enemy with whom I was at war!

Meanwhile, the wiki says this of wormholes: "Wormhole Stabilization technology allows science ships to stabilize wormholes, opening them permanently for a given empire."

Note the term 'a given empire' there; it suggests that opening a wormhole does so for the empire that scouts it -- but my recent experience suggests that's not the case; it seems to me that opening a wormhole for one opens it for all (who have the stabilization tech).

In my last game my fleet followed an enemy fleet through a wormhole i hadn't explored. And in lategame when i already had a big gate network one of my eplorationtships used the same wormhole it should explore to move into the system.
So either the wayfindingsystem is buggy or everyone can use it when one empire explored it.

The bug, I believe, is that once you research the tech, you can travel through the wormhole without needing to actually explore it

The automatic pathfinder ignores a wormhole being unexplored

I hear that having wormholes and gates in your game causes huge end game lag.

it's mostly the large pop count and ship count that does that
