Last, best hope didnt trigger
So I just led the alliance of non-aligned powers to victory against both awakened empires by conquering every system of both them and all their subjects. The wars on the bottom right did disappear, but I didnt get the achievement.
I made the mistake of playing on the largest map so towards the end the game got slow enough to take 3-5 times the time of regular normal speed, and after agonizing through all that slowness it is a mild dampener to me that it didn't even pay out to carry through towards the end.
What else should I have done for the achievement? Fight them until they settle for status quo? Apparently total victory was too much.

I had no problem getting it. Hate to ask the obvious question but - you were playing ironman right? And unmodded? And you were the leader of the non-aligned empires?

One ingame year after not getting it I moved my capital to a ringworld and instantly got the achievement for that so the game is still eligible

I think something similar happened when I got that achievement, if i'm remembering correctly one of the fallen empires had like a rebellion or something and was still alive for whatever reason after the War in Heaven. I killed the empire off and ended up getting the achievement.

Thanks for the reply!
It turned out that directly after I defeated the contingency, whose last resort I kept up for later, the achievement popped up. For some reason the wars were over but only counted as won when the endgame crisis was gone.
However I didnt get the "Does not compute" achievement because I cracked the last AI world with a Colossus and you only get it via bombardment, so one of the next playthroughs I guess :/

Did your endgame crisis trigger before the war in heaven? It's possible that if you had both running at the same time, it didn't actually evaluate the war in heaven as being over, since it was technically begun as a response to the endgame crisis.

The crisis triggered when the WiH was already going on
