The tale of the busted war exhaust system.

Paradox, what are you doing and when do you plan to fix this?
This problem is as old as the game now, we've been telling you about it for years and it still exists and ruins our experiences.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to tell that something is really off..

Land and finish the war?
zeeb Jul 21, 2019 @ 5:20am
I could do that, but that wouldn't have showcased the core problem with the system and I would've had to send armies from across the galaxy to invade which I did not really felt the need to do to such a small empire to whom I could just bomb out of existance.
(Which the game clearly forced me out of for some unknown or stupid reason)

That empire has nothing left, their planet is in ruins (100% devestation), no fleets and poses no threat to me, they have no resources or anything to use to make any attempt of winning the war.

Yet, my empire went "Hurr durr, lets white peace." as if they took any damage while doing this stuff safely from space.

I might also mention that my empire's way of life is war. Every trait and ethics etc is war based. They're most content when waging war and causing destruction.

You already have transports there in that screenshot... If it's 100% devastated that army should be enough.
Seems you're missing the war exhaustion gain techs though.

They had 2k army on the surface.

I mean my empire could just put bombardment on auto pilot and relax in the rec room with a cup of coffee, thats how small of a threat they posed at that moment.

They really need to add some sort of "Point of no return" system as to when an empire reaches that point (not being able to fight back) they automatically lose, or the winning side stop gaining attrition. Either way, this really needs to be fixed, you do have to agree this is rather stupid.

Settling for white peace when dominating shouldn't even exist as a concept. Only a really stupid ruler would accept it when winning.

--------
I've read that they added this system to implement balance to prevent players from steamrolling AI, but if you ask me this system seems to just be a fix to the weakness of the AI, instead of addressing the actual problem which is the intelligence of the game's AI.

They should improve it, instead of putting limiters on us, that is the way forward. AI in games need to evolve with the time to go along with the games they are used in.

Don't they have other planets? You usually don't actually need to occupy literally all of the planets, and I don't think the homeworld counts more than other colonies.

he's clearly not in control of his wargoals yet and those are worth more

Well he is correct its a problem that exists since the games launch: players who don't understand the war-system properly

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the war-exhaustion system a relatively recent addition? And wasn't it way better than the original system?

the current iteration of the war system was implemented around the beginning of last year. and yes, it makes a lot more sense than the old system did

Would solve all your problems, beginning with starting the war with "Total War" goal.
happyscrub Jul 21, 2019 @ 7:51am
Most of your exhaustion was from attrition. So did yal afk the war 99% of the time? Other empire might have modifiers that lower attrition and you didn't. So you lost the afk war

War exhaustion is not indicative of whether or not you are winning a war. It just means that you're going through attrition and resources faster.

Think of Russia during WWI.

Yes, you win wars with war goal. War exhaustion is secondary. 100% WE isn´t the same as winning the war...
