Negative Influence: how to resolve
All of a sudden I am at .6 negative influence. What happened ? How do I get it back? I only have 4 planets and need to expand, lol!

Hover over the influence icon in the resource menu and it'll show you what's using your influence

It may be due to factions losing happiness, thereoff not giving you influence

that still shouldn't take him negative unless he's spending it on something

Yeah, sure, but since the base influence is +3, it is sure that we was spending on something. But if he was still in positive then it could be that. I'm not arguing against the other argument, it's simply an .. addition ? (not sure if it's the good word).

Could be either too many research/commercial -pacts or maybe you're integrating a vassal (-5 influence/month).

A very easy way to go into negative if you don't pay attention is making pacts with the whole galaxy.

A non-agression pact? sure.
A research agreement? I don't have much to earn from you but if it makes you into an easy ally why not.
A mutual defense pact? We do have an empire bordering both of our frontiers that is likely to just massively improve its navy and go to war soon so it's not a bad idea.
A trade agreement? I can earn more from it, no real reason why not.
An immigration agreement? We don't live on the same planet type but if it means I can now colonize that big planet without spending 10 years terraforming it it would be worth it.

Repeat that for 3-4 empires and by the time you pay attention to your influence there is none gained anymore.

I know someone who knows exactly what is going on: Mr. Tooltip

if your galaxy has any inward perfectionists you can get some free influence. declare them a rival, they can't do anything about it unless they shift their ethics and nobody else will care.

thanks everyone. I found out through trial and error that it costs influence to support factions, and to hold them back. Duh, lol
