Before i attacked them, they did like me fairly well. Had there opinions +100 and trusted. They did not accept. Most of the people were next to me that I have tried this with.

accepting vassalization is basically a death sentence. i've only ever gotten empires that were so bad off and were afraid of another empire ever willingly become a vassal or protectorate.

ohhh, so maybe gain allies and stuff to make a force multiplier like in ck2?

Why do pathetic and inferior races never capitulate to vassal demands and to pay tribute?

But they do? Weak races that still like you (or not hate so much) will agree to became tributaries / protectorate via diplo.

If they hate you... well, look at Cuba IRL :)

Plus you always can get a Colossus and it will allow total war (in both sides so be wary).

Colossus?

Apocalypse DLC feature. Planet-killer ship, since you will get it - you may declare total war and no longer care about claims, instantly capturing enemy worlds (same will do your enemy).

O_O

Why? Seriously, why? You can finish most of tecnologies in ~80-90 years. Don't forget that after it you still have endless repeatable techs with stacking +5-10% bonuses.

How can you finish tech in 80 - 90 years? All techs are randomly given and I've never been able to complete any trees even passed 200 years with out the mod.

Hardcore tech builds only of course (robots or synths), ordinary empires will require ~110-130 years :)

Well, it's look like your economy is poor (or you're using insane settings like small galaxy with 50% of habitable planets). Either play more against stronger AI, or look for some streams / videos.
