How to import a friends custom races

How do you import someone else's races into your game of Stellaris. I found the user_empire_designs.txt file but any modifications or additions I save to it cause all the custom races to not show up in the game as a choice instead showing only a black template that can be selected with the discription that there are errors with it due to missing mods or DLC.

Are you editing the file in Notepad? Don't do that: regular Notepad doesn't record some of the formatting, which breaks the files when they're saved by that program.

I use Notepad++.

If you straight up want to copy someone elses user_empire_designs.txt [or just specific species entries from it] of course you need all the mods and dlcs they used to create them in the first place.

If I create a Hivemeind but you do not own Utopia, that is strike one.
If I created said Hivemind with a Tyranid picture from the United SciFi races mod, but you down#t subscribed the mod, that is strike two.
And if I used a bunch of traitmods like XER,Svafa and mabye even some extra Civic mods, which you then also do not subcribed too, that is strike three.
