Finding my megastructures
Is there a way to see my megastructures in one screen or list or something?

I'm trying to build a dyson sphere, but it won't let me, and I finally found a system that's viable, but whenever I try to build it, the only thing it says is "exists" with red X next to it.

But I haven't built one, and I don't think I've taken one over.

SO I wondered if there was a way to find it other than looking at each system one by one.

Even if you've found a ruined or another built one you should still be able to build yours. But no, there isn't a list.

no megastructure screen that I know of but make sure delete the mining/research station above the star first

I did. It still won't let me build it. It says "X exists" with the red X.

But I can't see one anywhere in my empire.

is there a mining/research station above the star in question? it might just be glitching out the tooltip on you

as for megastructures, you can see where they are on the galaxy map(symbol looks like a dyson sphere) but there's no actual list of them.

No, it was empty. No stations built on it.

I know this is a super old thread, but I managed to find a solution! And when I googled the topic, this is the top result.

Anyway, what you need to do is:
- Locate your savegame (e.g. c:\Users\[user]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\save games\...)
- Extract the .sav file with a zip tool (I'm using 7zip)
- Open "gamestate" file
- Search for the structure name (e.g. mega_shipyard or spy_orb, might be a funky name, but they're all in the same list so you can do some manual searching)
- The name will be grouped with a planet ID (planet=[id])
- Search for planet=[id] (e.g. "planet=6137" exactly same line as you found)
- One of the results will be a system group with a list of planets including the one you found. Name of system will be at the top!

.. all of this would be unnecessary if we had a proper list of megastructures, or if the game would display both the gate symbol and the megastructure symbol

Funny - Because it does just that...

It does not. You can check yourself: if there's a gate and a megastructure, it only shows the gate symbol (or maybe there's actually a max on 2 symbols, with megastructure being down-prioritized). I can easily provide proof that the megastructure symbol is not shown in some cases.

This has been one of my major gripes I've been making on my videos. I really want a way to find my Megastructures from the top resources screen. Show them to me. Partial or fully complete. I need to be able to find them easily.

It would be great if one could see where and which systems have megastructures (disabled or not), (L-)gateway's (disabled or not) and wormholes INSTEAD of scanning the main map by yourself. Especially when one has territories all over the map.

Why isn't there a megastructure tab in the outliner?

a band aid fix is that when you build your structure, assign it to a hotkay by hitting ctrl+ one of the number keys. Then you can quickly find it by hitting the relevant number key.
A band aid, I know, but at least it is something.

I have re-named systems, or put a mark in the name, so that I can tell where things are from the main map.

I open the gamestat but I only given a "site=64342344" but no planet.

I cannot build it, I try it first time WITH an mine on the sun and didn´t know, which of my 250 systems it was.

So I hope to find a hint in the savefile but I cant.

Using Notepad++

check where your construction ships are, maybe you haven't used it since you built the construction site

Try searching for "64342344", it's a location ID. Somewhere else this location is defined as a planet with a name. It's also located within a system with another ID, which is also defined somewhere with a system name.
