Food to build ships?
when did this become a thing? i have been away for a while but really ?

I don’t believe that ever was a thing. I would check to make sure you don’t have any outdated mods enabled that might be messing with your resource identities.

colony ship it makes some sense since you're launching them out to build on a new world with nothing producing food there and no shipping lines set up yet to bring them food

if it's any other ship then i'd assume a mod is messing with your game

There are mods to let you "grow" your ships, like if you use living ships.

i have a few mods. most of them are only for interface stuff. guilli's planet modifiers and technology accendent are the only two that affect game play. i am running beta test though.

Update them and make sure they have not been discontinued

Guy above me is right. In that mod there is a researchable tech that lets you make ships out of living material, bio-ships and whatnot. Those cost food.
