How to make sectors in 2.3?
I was pretty excited when 2.3 was supposed to fix sector and sector AI issues. So I was playing for hours last night and did not really notice much of a difference.

For instance, I wanted to split my large empire up into multiple sectors for better management (which is supposed to be possible in 2.3), but I did not see any option to do that. Even though my empire was quite large, it appeared to consider its planets as being in the "core" sector. The only time it let me make a new sector was when I conquered a far-off planet from a devouring swarm, and this planet was a core planet of another empire (whom I had vassalized). This planet was considered to be in the "frontier sector" and it gave me the option to make it a sector all on its own. I also did not see any option to modify the sector, or to even visually view its territory (I guess sectors are only composed of populated planets now?).

Basically I just want to be able to create sectors like I could before Le Guin, and have them operate autonomously via sector AI.

Speaking of AI, this patch was supposed to improve planet automation. I saw new options for this in planet menus, but I did not actually observe it doing anything like building structures or whatever.

It's not "core" sector, if planets are 4 jumps away from your capital without a sector, they all get batch filed as "frontier" sector in the outliner. Once you click "create sector" in the planets menu, all planets within 4 jumps get batched into the new sector.

Ok. So whats up with the dev saying that players should have more ability to control and customize sectors in the patch notes? What is different about it now?

now you get to click a button to have the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥ effect we had before the patch.

For one, you can now rebuild your sectors and not have it permanent crash when someone takes a planet. For another.... I'm still thinking of reason 2, give me a moment....

Anyone else also get a big pink ERROR box for the notification when you find a new archeological site, or is this just a mod conflict?

yes, me too
my icons do not properly fit into the little boxes for things like gateways, wormholes, etc

I just played for like 8 hours straight lol

I encountered a lot of noticable bugs, not sure if/how mods affect them. The most annoying one is that sometimes an enemy defence squad will bug out and indefinitely gain health as you are invading a planet. I've literally gone in with a 3K army of mostly psyonic soldiers against like 2 squads at 150 power, only for them to wipe out over half my forces until I had to pull them out. And it's not like I can avoid this battle because I can't ignore the hyperlane blocker thing on the planet.

I've also been running into a bug involving the psyonic shield upgrade for ships. I sent 20 ingame years researching that tech, then it does not seem to work. I upgrade ships to have them, and they just sit around at the station saying "waiting to upgrade"; I upgrade defence platforms to have them, and they do upgrade but don't show the purple shields. This is probably something to do with ship mods though, since I think this happened before.

And sector/planet AI still sucks and doesn't seem to do much, although vassals are somewhat better (but still suck). Overall the game does feel better now with less micromanagement than before this patch, though to be honest I did not see any specific reason why. It's weird.

I click make sector, and my planets just disappear. I've got five sectors with 0 planets in them...

Just in case, but you are unpausing the game right?

Whenever I make sectors, the planets take a month or so to appear in the lists/sidebar.

If that's not it, sorry!

Yeah. The new patch is so damn broken.

None of my planets will register properly. I have one that is a mining planet even though it has several civilian repli-complexes. Another is a generator planet even though it has tons of foundries.

Great job devs. You broke the game again.

I haven't played Stellaris in a couple months, so it could have changed. But there were a couple ways. First is in a planet menu; the sectors are based around planets now, so if you have a planet that is several systems away from another sector, then there should be a button in its general menu (the menu where you see the governor).

You should also be able to do it somehow from the planets & sector menu.

I liked how I was able to actually create my own sectors in 2.1.

This is either laziness or stupidity. We wanted custom sectors.

I feel like an idiot but the game is so much more cluttered now.
