Titans and Colossi

I keep reading about how you need the apocalypse DLC for them (I haven't got it) but in the late game the awakened empires, etc start building them. So you don't need the DLC, or does not having the DLC only remove them for the player only?

(Also I read that only titans can mount X size weapons, and if I can't get access to titans is the particle lance tech useless?)

Latter. Only it doesn't remove, it adds. FEs always had them. Well, not collosi, but still...

battleships can have X mounts, but only 1 or 2 I think. titans can have like 5

Battleships get 1 X slot bow, titans might be able to swap their T slot bow but why would you ever?

Yeah, Fallen/Awakened Empires are the only ones who can get Titans and Colossi if you lack Apocalypse.

As for X sized slots, Titans can't actually have those. Battleships can get a bow with one X slot once you've researched something like the Tachyon Lance or Giga Cannon, while Titans have only one bow option, which is a T slot (basically the X slot on steroids).

Actually, I think advanced start empires may be able to get them too.. or there is an event or something the regular AI empires can complete that will grant them one.. I ran into a non-FE, non-awakened empire before I got apocalypse who had a titan in their fleet equipped with like, all tier 1/tier 2 weapons and equipment tech. It was pretty bizarre.

I've only seen this while checking out Glavius AI in early 2.2; kinda doubt it was vanilla thing. Never seen that since. Either way, those titans are completely useless in early wars.

Yes. It was completely useless, but it was 100% vanilla.

Edit: Just to be clear, I saw this exactly one time, ever, across all games I have ever played, and while I've taken some long breaks from the game I've been playing since release. I didn't mean to suggest it's a common thing to see, just that I have seen it in vanilla.

That's almost certainly from The Grand Herald dig site chain, and it's far from useless. It's gamebreakingly powerful, for two main reasons:

1) Yes, it's true, their weapons don't work very well against corvette fleets, and you'll likely lose the battles, but you'll kill a few of their ships each fight, and you won't suffer any war exhaustion, since you'll just retreat before your ship dies, which makes it super easy to win wars,

2) More importantly, it pretty much instantly puts all other empires around you at "Inferior", which lets you declare subjugation wars and make them tributaries, thus jumpstarting your economy without having to sacrifice in order to get military strength

Most certainly not. It was 2.2.2 or 2.2.3 - probably, just one of the many things messed up in that version. Besides, AI is not dumb enough to downgrade it... yet >.>

No Battleships have one X weapon(IF you have researched one) and the rest are L or whatever you pick for your hull sections.
The titan has one titan weapon and the rest(6 i think) are all L no other options as far as I can remember

WHAT A LOAD OF UTTER B***S**T..... A post by someone who clearly hasn't played the game.

Battleships get ONE slot in the base game, You must research your first X type weapon to unlock the Module for Battle Ships

Titans begin with a Titan/Ion Cannon only mountable weapon similar to a X type slot, but far more powerful, The Titan/Ion Cannon tech unlocks the weapon, so you get it when you unlock the ship/platform.

There are mods that have changed/added ship designs, which MIGHT have more slots for such weapons, but these are not in the vanilla game

Yes.

To be precise Titan is more like buff-machine with cool pew-pew laser that trying too look as Big Bad Battleship, but lack hp to be him :)
