Dlc unlock extra features, if it's considered essential to the game they put new features into the free patches

No. The vanilla game is perfectly enjoyable, and you definitely do not need dlc. Unless you wan't to play a tall empire (Meaning an empire that focuses on tech and traditions instead of raw resources and military power), in that case you will need the dlc "Utopia".

Yes and no, yes because it gives you access to some really cool stuff, no because you can get some mods and either skip the DLC or buy them at your own pace.

Nah wait for a decent sale

I would say the only "essential" DLC is Utopia. Otherwise, I find Distant Stars and the newest expansion to be quite enjoyable additions.

I wouldn't call it nickle-and-diming. I think they add on to the game with each expansion, but I certainly don't feel like I have been "robbed".

There was a time when they DLC would have improved the experience, but all that is pretty pointless in it's current state. Just save your money.

Or ... don't, and just ignore the trolls. The game is perfectly fine right now.

base is pretty barebones, dlcs add a lot to the bones to hide the hollowness. However, if you dont like empty fluff talk, which loses value (has no value after you read it, you can read it without paying for the game, meaning, it is worthless) in general the features are way above their pricepoint. They are very often buggy themselves even years after release.

However, if you know the game well enough, its mechanics, its holes, its performance, you will discard this game in about 2 to 3 weeks maximum. IF you are not as patient, one hour will give you enough annoying reasons to quit.

The game:

it appears huge.
it appears complex.
it appears awesome.

it tries to give you an impression that if you survive all its annoyances, that there is something deeper. Maybe it is deep, but I suppose bottomless pit is pretty deep or huge. In other words, it is empty and does not deliver regardless or PR marketing, censorship, lying, it just doesnt work as advertised.

AI was advertised years ago as non cheating. Devs told its customers to gid gud without shame.

You are dealing with a company that has profit at its heart, profit at all costs. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Dont support bad guys.

Thank you for the information.

I strongly disagree. And this is coming from someone who has been there for the whole 2.0 thing.

Censorship? Maybe. But its a little hard to consider bait threads and flame wars a good thing. The moderators are doing their jobs.

Lying? At what point have they ever lied? And no I'm not licking anyone's boots I'm really concerned if I missed anything. My opinions are flexible after all. :steamhappy:

As for "Gitting Gud," that is due to the fact that the AI works (kind of, its still pretty dumb) as intended, and what's the point of enjoying a game you can't get some kind of challenge from?

Admittedly, this game has its issues but I really do not think the Devs are on EA levels of greedy.

supposedly wiz lied about the ai cheating although i'm not sure if that's because he has a different idea of what counts as cheating from an ai perspective or if he made a statement regarding the game and then later on the game changed. either way i'm not really concerned about it because i don't know of any strategy game where the ai doesn't cheat to make up for it's lack of human intuition(barring those smart ai they've thrown in dota to see what it could do but that's not going to show up in your average game for a long time)

tomasoltis seems to get bored with whatever super exciting and superior game he's playing instead of stellaris from time to time and comes back to troll the forum. he doesn't seem to understand that there's plenty of people that still enjoy the game so he keeps coming back to claim it's dead and tries to convince everyone to stop playing
APhoenixSoaring Sep 22, 2019 @ 11:21am
Wiz did lie about the AI cheating. I think he claimed economic cheats weren't really cheats. He oversaw forum pile ons over on ParadoxPlaza. He has apologized for the lies and his actions.
