If you want an actual estimation, let us know which leviathan we're talking about here and we can tell you around how much firepower will be required to take it down.
edit: And the admiral gets a talent.
You always get:
- Dragonslayer Trait - 10% fire rate & weapons damage to the captain doing the kill (get a young one).
- Dragon Slayer Monument - 15 Unity. Empire-unique.
IF it is inside your sphere of influence you always get:
- Dragon Hoard a 30+ mineral world
Random Chance from Dragon Hoard: Should be noted that you may never get any of these events, you may get both or only one during your playthrough. It is -entirely- random.
- T6 Armor event
- Dragon Egg you can hatch for a Drakeling event (this fellow rivals a 40k fleet, comes with jump drive and some bad ass weapons)
- Personally I only ever seem to get the Dragon Egg so... Yeah, good luck with rng'ing those scales :).
Leviathans usually have an X class weapon that can one-shot battleships, so be prepared to eat some losses no matter what you do unless you're willing to build a full fleet of torp corvettes to throw at the critter.
If you're tight on alloys, consider contacting the curators and bribing them to tell you about the mysteries of the universe - especially the mysterious spots best suitable to blow holes into to kill the leviathan of your choice.
You might also want to blow some credits on marauders to eat the first volley of fire for you and add some extra pew pew. So long as you retreat them before the last ship dies, the fleet will be available for hire again at full strength after you dismiss it so there's really no reason not to if you're flush in energy.
Last but not least there's strategic resource edicts to boost your energy/kinetic weapon damage.
Costs a bundle, but if you've got a large stockpile and alloys aren't cheap at that time in the game then it may be worth it.
Is it me or should there just be a feature for steam forums that locks a topic that's older than 6 months if the admins enable it?
I would much rather have repeat topics created every few months than have to deal with some bozo doing his best Necrophage impression.
