"Drone Grid"

Been playing as a hivemind, and im supposed to start with this army unit called "Drone Grid" but I have not? I can create the most basic defense army, but not this so-called Drone grid unit.

Drone Grid is for the machine race. Or at least my machine empire starts with them. Eventually you get an upgraded version of them. Which sadly doesnt actually upgrade the Drone Grid units you have into it. You would have to go back and scrap all the Drone Grid's and rebuild them into the new ones.

huh, nothing states that its "machine only" as far as im aware. thats disappointing. the name is very misleading in that case

It's not misleading... drone grid has the mechanical unit icon. You're not mechanical, you don't get them.

Well thats the thing. there is no Icon displayed to begin with.
to add onto that, as a hivemind your pops and leaders are referred to as Drones

nor is there any information about this "Drone Grid" on the wiki.

It's not there, cause it's new, and the wiki is done by volunteers. But grid by its very name implies technology. Which, at least to my reasoning implies machine. Anyways it's SYNTHETIC Dawn... let's go with the flow here.

Well, a defense grid is a network of defenses. a drone grid is a network of drones.
A hivemind is just as much capable of forming a "drone grid" as a machine intelligence.
both are gestalt conciousnesses after all and both have drones, so to speak.
