How is this game vs other space 4k games?
I have Sins of a Solar Empire, and it's not bad actually. I like the building and combat, it has great combat and militarization and simple research and building.

But I also have Galactic Civilization 3, and I can never get into that game. It's way too slow for me and upgrading and research in the game seems broken and everything is hidden without hidden menus and editor modes and everything. I like building up and researching though, but combat is atrocious and building a navy is horrible.

How is this game compared to those games? How is this game in general? I have been looking for a good space strategy game but so far everything is a hit or miss and I want to know how this was before getting it and finding out 20 minutes after the return allotement time that I like it or not.

You'll get a mix of answers ranging from " its great " to "the AI cheats and I hate the game because I can't win. "

I wasn't a fan of Galciv and I haven't played sins but I've played many other 4x games and Stellaris is as good as any.

Paradox do 4x their own way and it's worth checking out the war mechanics especially as they're so different to other 4x games.

Well I like games that have a good balance of military and diplomacy. Like I'd love a space Total War game, that'd be cool.

Does this game have some crazy ship builder garbage like galciv? Do ship and colony upgrades automatically apply after research? I was never able to upgrade anything after research in galciv and the tutorial was useless.

Wait until they update in the new patch whenever that comes out. I think a lot of people said March or April which is a hell of al ong time but I just can't play this game right now with how bad combat is.

Basically the entire game boils down to combat always regardless of what type of empire you play. You MUST have a huge doom stack to win and the AI will always avoid you and never fight you like in a regular RTS game. Also if the AI has a doomstack, you lose and they will just wipe everything out.

Its such a dumb mechanic that I can't believe it didn't get fixed ages ago.

New big patch coming out looks promising but we'll see when it gets here.

You can set ships to auto refit but I prefer to do it manually. Sectors are AI controlled and will eventually upgrade buildings. It's much faster to do it yourself though, unfortunately.

i have galciv 2 and this game has more easier ship builder. ship and colony upgrade applied manually after reasearch, although you can make it automatic but its not as effective as yourself than applying upgrade. The tutorial is easy to understand, in my opinion stellaris learning curve is *far* more accessible than galciv 2.
