Play in a big galaxy (600-800 stars), with plenty of AI empires. If you are lucky enough the AI Empires will keep the spawning contingency in check or even destroy the 120k+ guardian fleets around their planets. I had a Awakend Empire who was constantly fighting the Contingency on all fronts. The AI "allies" will not bombard the planets to dust, that task is up to you.
For fleet: as big as you can go. Main weapons are Gigacannon, kinetic artillery and Gauss.
My final fleet was 70 battleships, 80 cruisers, 50 Flak Destroyers and 40/40 corvs with either 3 autocannons or torp with all around 170k strength.
Also noteworthy: The ascension perk against Crisis really pays off.
Worst part was that after the fourth planet was bombed, the final fifth appeared on the other side of the galaxy, behind a aggro awakend empire. I just declared war, rushred through their terriotory and finished the contingency while their murdermega fleet was sacking my territory.
It was 600 star map and I have vassalized most of the AI, but they could do only around 20k power and would fly around like headless chickens.
I think that Crisis slider was at 1x, maybe 1.7 (one of my friends was having doubts about it).
Why did you do that? The final planet doesn't produce anything (to my knowledge).
Probably my slider was not as high as yours ;) Contigency fleets around 60k with 120k guardian fleets could be handled by the other AI Empires since they had mostly also fleets ranging from 60-80k and if they were in a federation and helped each other....the awakend Empire with a 180k and superior weapons was running around alone and roflstomping the contingency wherever they found them. Sad part was that later a defective robot FE was killing the Awakend Empire in "defense" of the Contingency ^^
So, if your slider was way high, you probably now know that you can't handle that much heat and should lower it for your next game. I will increase the difficulty to see where the limit for regular AI empires will be in the next bigger game.
Achievement hunting ;) Besides, I do not fight several horus against a annoying threat and then when I finally can rip their bloody throat out, let them live in some corner of the galaxy.
If you were refering to me in that first paragraph. My game was played on normal settings, and the contingency fleets were 80k and 220k in my game haha. But if you weren't nevermind.
