How do you typically deal with Space Amoebas?
Peacefully observe or proactive? Or do you even research them at all?

Well reading more into it, why would anybody NOT pick the 5% energy credits? Option of either 5% energy or 20% damage boost to Amoebas. Honestly, since they don't respawn in the game, does anybody even bother with the "proactive" approach? Why pick something that's only marginally useful for a short period in the early game when you can get something that's useful for the entire game?

I feel guilty for going with the energy credits (observe) since I generally roleplay. But honestly, the rewards for destroying them outright simply pale in comparison to the point of being irrelevant. The militarist approach (our fleets will break them apart) needs a buff to its reward.

Perhaps a minor bonus to happiness when hunting Space Amoebae becomes a sport.

If the space amoebas does not attack me, I do not attack them and let them fly as they like. Eventually the AI empires kill them all one by one and I kind of find it sad that the peaceful creatures die off so quickly.

They add some life to the galaxy.

Problem is the amoeba fleets in my current game decided to park for whatever reason. I don't know if they're bugged, damaged, or what. Usually I see them drifting from system to system in fleets of roughly 800-900 strength. One even attacked some of my mining stations earlier, but it had a fleet power of 800-900. These 3 or 4 fleets are all 679 fleet power and have been blocking some systems near me until I got sentinel destroyers. Maybe there are two types of amoeba fleets? Stationary and mobile ones?

I agree about it being sad how many of the "neutral" and spaceborne aliens die off. They should at least respawn from time-to-time to bring life to the galaxy.

Maybe I can find a mod for this...

If they're peaceful, why do they show as hostile?

The space amoebae breed in a system called "Amor Alveo" which you can protect yourself once you have learned to co-exist with them. Every few years, they'll spawn a new pack that is hostile for a day before it moves off somewhere else. Also, if you learn to co-exist with them, you will have the option to introduce the Space Amoeba Protect Act in the Galactic Community which gives every empire the ability to coexist with them - even the xenophobic ones.

Is this a problem that you're having in your own game? This thread you're responding to is quite old and it is unlikely that anyone originally participating in it is still around to give you a response. But if there's something about the amoebae that you're wondering about, I'm sure folks would be happy to help.

I pick the "we can coexist" choice during first contact, then research. When research is finished, space amoebas become yellow/neutral. Then you can enter star systems with their presence and build starbases and colonies.

I know it's old, but I decided to try revival rather than a new thread.

The problem I'm having now is that I made the choices to be friendly but they blocked access to five systems so I couldn't even survey, and one system was a chokepoint they just sat on, not moving anywhere at all. Since being friendly didn't seem to be of any value I got tired after twenty-plus years of them blocking that chokepoint and just took them out -- if they were going to show as hostile, and act hostile by blocking systems, then hostile it would be!

At this point I figure I'll park a fleet in a system with them and see what happens.

They've been spectacularly inactive latley, but the moderators generally prohibit that. They call it "necrobumping" and tend to respond by locking the thread "to prevent confusion."

If you have a xenophilic ethos and choose to coexist with the amoebae you get a special project that allows you to dedicate physics research to studying co-existence. When the special project is concluded, then you can send ships into systems with ameobae in them. You can read about it in more detail here, but I'll quote the relevant part for you: https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Spaceborne_aliens#Space_fauna
Pacify unlocks a special project that costs 5000 Physics research and allows an empire to turn the space creatures non-hostile and unlock the ability to research all special components the creatures use. Only 2 of the 5 Space Creatures can be pacified. This option is available to Pacifist, Xenophile, Civic Empath or Civic Rogue Servitor empires. If the Galactic Community is formed, the Space Amoeba pacification modifier can be offered to all members by passing the Space Amoeba Protection Act Resolution.

"necrobumping"

as in

"We didn't address the issue in five years because we can't even be bothered to archive old threads. But oh boy if you make us look bad then we'll go hard on you for researching the internet."

It seems a very strange policy for a forum that is indexed on Google, since old threads will bring in the most new traffic from search engines. But I've always found the easiest way to prevent confusion is clear, concise and current information.
