Can you still edit your custom empire's file?

Do you mean while a game is inprogress? I'm not sure. I know you can edit your empire in the empire creator and use it again without illeffect on save games though

yes you can still edit your races custom empire file as its just a text file. Your save file is also just text file thats compressed. Both which you can edit. Editing your save file would be a big undertaking ie not worth the effort.

instead of C:\Users\%USERNAME% you can use %USERPROFILE% if your installation is not on C or you got a custom path.

Okay, just tried it. If you do anything questionable, you have to delete ALL your custom empires, regardless of weather or not you reverse it. However, changing from different legitimate planets (no tomb worlds allowed), changing the portraits, etc, you should be fine. Finally, I can have an empire of YOU'RE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ A WHITE MALE.
