Question about allowing artificial intelligence
So long story short, after conquering a few planets i noticed that there are now robotic and droid pops in my empire. Although im a materialist, i have never built any robots and i somewhat intend to disassemble them.

Question is, if i set my policy to ban all AI and according to the tooltip, disassemble all robots, will my materialist pops get all pised off and can i still research tech that has anything to do with AI? :P

I believe Spiritualist empires currently have to ban AI. (I've been playing as one to get the Psi techs.) I've seen the research speed boost techs, the automated exploration tech, and the automated colony ship tech. I have not seen the Robot tech. The materialist pops will probably not like banning AI, but you'd have to check their faction's issues to see if it is listed.

Alright since you have seen the research speed boost tech i think its good enough. Guess i can ban them xD thanks.

there are 2 (I think) materialist faction things related to robots. one is to have 6 robots (or droids or synths) across the entire empire, the other is about having the highest level of robots compared to other empires. meaning that if you have droids and someone else has synths your materialist faction will be unhappy
im fairly certain that banning AI will prevent robots droids and synths techs from showing up

So long as research bonus techs like sentient ai show up, im happy with it :P

But actually i hate droids, etc. Havent researched synthetics simply because i know it can spawn a crisis and i dont want that. Not to mention it feels weird to me if i simply replace my workforce of organic pops with synths lol... even though i have the materialist ethic xD

Easy crisis to prevent (citizen rights to AIs). I love droids if only because they can colonize worlds my main species can't, especially handy if your species has negative habitability, also tomb worlds.

The only good reason I can think of to not give citizen rights to AIs is you want to trigger the crisis and yes, if I had to pick a crisis that would be the one I would prefer. However, even as other ones can be harder, at least with those there is a good chance they appear in someone else's territory and weaken powerful enemies. Hell, the last game I played had a crisis that crippled the two biggest empires of a federation that was preventing my expansion and won me the game.

assuming the info in the stellaris wiki is up to date, your materialist faction will lose 35 happiness ("AI allowed" issue goes from +5 to -15 and "Synth Envy" goes from +5 to -10). if you currently have more than 6 robot pops, you'll lose another 5 points of happiness ("Machine Love" goes from +5 to 0)

whether you can afford to lose all that happiness is up to you of course. depends on how many pf your pops are materialists and how much happiness you get from other sources.

that sucks. but i really hate how i cant disassemble individual robot pops just to remove the colony research penalty. Instead i have to disassemble all at once or none at all :(
