Psionic research category
Short version: Do Psionic cards show up eventually in Physics, Society, or Engineering?

Long version: I had my surveyer (probably spelled that very wrong) recently level up and gain Psionics. I let him go around a while to level up then realized he could be useful to open up the world of Psionocs to me which I've not experienced yet so I set him to research.

But.. Which role should I set him in? Do Psionic cards show up eventually in Physics, Society, or Engineering?

Society. They show up in the Society tree, even the Psi Jump Drive, which is the final tech in the tree.

Ah, thank you very much Potato
Yeah, except for 1 technology in physics (which aren't that rare or useful) all the Psionics technologies are in Society. And most of them have some ridiculous penalty attached to them, like x0.05 base chance if you don't have Psionic Expert leading the Society research. Unless you are playing Spiritualists (who don't suffer from that penalty), it's very, very unlikely to see a Psionics research popped up without using a Pisonic scientist.

At it's not that bad, because Materialists have x0 penalty if don't use Psionic-traited scientist :)

And you a bit mistaken. Only basic Psionic Theory have such penalty. All following psionic-based techs're have standart rare penalties and can be researched even by Materialists. Plus after unlock of Psionic Theory it's possible to hire scientists with Psionic trait if you still miss one.

Luckily my guy gained it at level three, I just didn't know which research to put him on so he was siting on Engineering. Thanks for the help guys :)
Word to the wise-Maniacs offset this significantly, reducing the total modifier to 25% chance, which enters the realm of possibility if not liklyness. A materialist empire should throw a Maniac on society and sit back for a while, if they want Psionics.

No, that don't help for materialists. For them penalty is x0 if scientist don't have psionic trait. No way you can offset it.

So I should leave my maniac on Physics and move my Psionic guy to Social and leave them there? And I am indeed a Materialist with a little Xenophile thrown in

Yes do so. As materialist you NEED psionic-traited scientist to unlock first psionic technology "Psionic Theory".

Plus psionic jump drives are superior to non-psionic and psionic computer for battleships&corvettes superior then sentient AI computer.

Maniacs give a 5x modifier to Psionics. with that, non-Spiritualists would get a 0.05*5=0.25 (1/4) the base chance (which is still low) and materialists will get a 0x5=0 the base chance, which is never.

You can't get any psionic guys with materialists, WTF???
If this crap happens to exist, it's not a belief, it's real and it becomes material, so why does materialists can't research this???
Even with those technologies in there possessions???

At least techs which involve religious beliefs, shouldn't be able to be searched by materialists.

But psionic??? It doesn't make sense...

From what I understand now, you can if you've gotten a scientist to level up and gain Psionics as a trait like I have.

Because it's not dealing with material matter, it's fundamentally about spiritual concepts and breaking the bounds imposed by matter on the soul and spirit. A materialist culture that denies that organics are anything more than lumps of flesh that happen to be able to move and communicate with each other is going to have MAJOR trouble accepting these things.

How can you treat them then???

@Kriss

Materialists are... well, materialists. They don't agree to fund any research of paranormal until after some rare circumstances they will found one man who obliviously have such abilities. In that case they have no objections to study it.
