How do I turn off the sectors overlay?

I have a new laptop and for some reason it has a 3rd option on the funtion keys and the only way to use those keys is SUPOSE to be to press control and then the function key you want to use. (I know super annoying, there's probably some option to fix that) ANYWAYS I try to press f12 and it wont go away...

At the bottom right there is a series of map modes, one of them is for sectors and if you turn it off you won't see sectors on the map anymore.
