Mineral Silos
Does anyone ever build these? I personally never do. +2000 isn't a lot, and early game I'm generally using minerals as soon as I can get them to build/upgrade structures, expand my fleets or build new colonies. So the only time I ever hit mineral cap is late game where I'd need dozens of silos to make a difference.

The main benefit of the mineral silo is that they have no energy cost and if placed properly can give you +4 minerals (base). Used properly, that is a significant benefit. The added storage capacity is icing.

I will sometimes build one on a tile that has no resources if it is adjacent to mineral tiles.

Wait, they produce minerals? That must be new, I noticed a lot of buildings now give additional resources, like Alien Zoos and Cloning Facilities give Society research. Didn't notice that silos gave Minerals.

They have adjacency bonuses?

Yes, it has an adjacency bonus.

Is that new, or have I never noticed because I never built one? I thought only capital buildings had adjacency bonuses.

Nope thats not new that was here since the beginning of the game as far as i know.
Yeah, that's what I meant by "if placed properly". I probably should have specified adjacency bonus.

Don't know if it's new, but a lot of things have them.

They don't give minerals, but they give +1 mineral at each adjancent (or whatever that word is^^ I mean the field left, right, up, down of the silo, so you get +4 in best case for 0 energy cost) field.

Pre 1.5 patch I built alot of these (on each world) to increase mineral storage. Since 1.5 patch I only built one out of accident, because the 20k/40k mineral limit is more than enough for me.

Does it say on the description of it that it gives bonuses? I never knew that at all.

Yes it does.

Yeah, the adjacency bonus is the real treat, the extra storage is the icing on the cake. If you can place it in a way to connect to 2-4 mines, that's optimal.

Adjacency bonus is "new", but not new in this patch. It was not in at launch. That being said, mineral silo's are actually pretty useful in terms of "Oh god, oh god, my fleet wiped."

With the right combination of effects, you can get battleship build times down into the ~120 day range. 15 spaceports in your space, you can shove out around 45 battleships in a year....if you've got the mineral stockpiles to support that kind of massive build effort.

Edit: It should also be noted that a top tier silo is 4,000 minerals, not 2,000....and you'll get them WELL before the mega-engineering tech. Putting just a few of them out there can give you mineral stockpiles to survive any kind of attritional warfare.

yet its still very weak tha t+4 minral for no energy but for a bit of energy you would get 10-12 mineral
