Easiest way to get to terraforming?
So I have this problem in a match I am playing where I now have the 2nd lowest amount of planets out of all the factions but the biggest borders due to the supremacy adoption, a couple researches, and one of those traits for fully completing a unity tree. I now have a whole bunch of terraformable planets under my control.

The only problem is that I only have the first tech where it lets you change the planet to another of the same type but not the 2nd where it lets you change it to anything which is what I need. The other Empire's borders are closing in and it refuses to give me that 2nd tech even though I research every planet hability tech it gives me. Why is it not giving it to me? is there a way to increase the odds of it showing up? (for now and later games)

There is only one way to increase the odds, you have to research or get more research alternatives to have a bigger chance of getting the tech you want. Other than that, there really is no other way. So instead of having 3 research options you can have 4 and so on.

yea I have gotten one of those, am at 4 researches. The other Empire is about to envelop me, they have like 20 planets to my 7 now, but I have a bunch of terraformable ones in my territory, hope I get it randomly soon :steamsad:

Just become robots, 100% hability for everything :3 (totally not attempting to turn more speices into robots)

getting an early ascension slot and getting master of nature perk really helps increase your chance of getting terraforming tech. With master of nature, its free 9 society tile blocker techs out of your research pool so increases your chance of getting terraforming.

This is probably obvious, but if you're desperate, focus on stuff that doesn't take as long to research so that you cycle through more quickly.
Hey op here is a tip from me.

Build forward outpost .

I usualy forward outpost spam myself arround near the other factions.

Dat usualy totaly stops their spreading.

Also put some outposts to the planets you want to terraform later so they wont take it.

But a warning it will cost allot of your energy credit.

And influence. I suspect you use a mod to circumvent that cost, because otherwise you wouldn't be maintaining more than two or so outposts and still have enough influence to hire new leaders or settle planets.

I actually have a lot of energy, its the influence I am running out of. I am putting those stations over key choke points so they can't get through to colonize between my claimed areas but it also seems that their borders push harder than mine. Their border is touching mine just outside the system my frontier outpost is in.

I never play with mods :p

My influence gain mostly at +1 or 0

If you have the materialist ethic and tecnocracy civic you can have up to 5 research options.
(with the +1 research options tech)

I have also had a research event with my science ship that gave me Atmospheric Manipulation.

You could also try offering out a bunch of materials or credits to random empires to try to get a 10 year research agreement... and maybe get some help that way..... also try to get as much society research +% as you can and research the cheapest techs you can until you get it.

Additional things you can do to increase your research speed:

+30% Society research grants Edict
+15% Recruit Curator scientist and put him on sociecty research
+10% Level 5 researcher's skill level
+10% Finish Discovery Traditions
+10% Complete the Infinity Machine Leviathan and get lucky + own resulting new black hole
+10% Sentient AI (dangerous higher level tech)
+5% Encourage Free Though Edict
+5% administrative AI early Physics tech
+5% research institute (empire unique building from rare mid - late game tech)

If you can get all that youre at + 100% research speed
+maybe a few other things you can get

make sure your biology scientist has the right trait. new worlds I think. Other than that and what others suggested, not really
