Well, in one of the livestreams, Wiz got rid of a faction by pushing its number low enough so that it disbanded. I didn't watch them all, so maybe it popped up again later, but at least when they were playing the game, it was possible.
For example, the pacifist faction like for you to be at peace for an extended time. So, if you go to war, that factor will be removed. If it is the only factor favoring the pacifist faction, they may disappear.
However, another factor that favors the pacifist faction is unlocking any of the Prosperity tree. Once you do it, there is no way to undo it, so from then all you will likely have some amount of pacifists in your empire. If they decide to form a faction, then you will likely never be able to get rid of that faction.
On an other thing. Slaves cant join/create factions.
Materialism is sitting now at 53% Support followed by Xenophilia with 36% which are both my main Ethos.
Rest of my factions is varying from 1%-3% support; and usually one factions disappears to rise again a few decades later; this is usually the supremacist faction.
The support for all other factions is practically so low it's as good as dead and non-existent to make a worthwhile impact.
Side-note: i think suppressing a faction is not worth the influence impact; especially if you have multiple faction you'd want to supress
Thats the wrong factor.
The "Issues" that decide if they are happy or unhappy are another thing then the attraction-modifiers, you'll see those when you go over the ethic-symbols on top of the factionscreen.
