Adaptable trait seems a bit worthless on them? I would say, so seems you wasted 4 points on nothing and only gained bad traits
Because I noticed that adaptable & habability doesn't mean ♥♥♥♥ to them.
Why?
No happiness as they are hivemind -> Habability changes the "Max happiness" on that planet you can have -> No happiness, no need for max happiness -> Colonies anything above 40% all you want
Correct me if I'm wrong. Been working great in my game.
I went with
-Nonadapative
+Intelligent
+Natural Sociologists
+Thrifty
-Sedentary
With
Hive mind
Subsumed Will
Natural Neural Network
The happiness plays no roll in hivemind, so if you take a 40% planet, a normal race would only be able to be 40% happy. Hivemind doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥
I took Nonadaptive and gonna use genetics to remove it later in the game, maybe.
Super adaptable is great for early expansion if you are going for a wide build. While Hiveminds still get a few benefits from habitability (specifically, pop growth speed depends on habitability, but that's not that big anyway). Mind you, it's a bit of an issue on the late game, but then again, hiveminds will likely go for the bioengineering ascensions, meaning they can eventually remove positive traits once they get the habitability researches done and/or create subspecies for each environment. Of course, that's only if you do want a early wide expansion strategy, which might not always be the case.
Repugnant: Basically free points if you plan to handle your diplomacy at the point of a gun, since the happiness modifier for other species is irrelevant (any species in your empire that cares about happiness is going to be eaten, so they will be incredibly unhappy anyway... :P )
Decadent, Solitary and other happiness penalty traits: Free points basically, only costing being one of the picks.
Sedentary: Hiveminds pops don't seem to migrate at all, so on on hand, migration time is irrelevant. But on the other hand, it also means extra influence to relocate pops and Hiveminds already get less influence than everyone else due to not having factions.
Edit:
Oh, speaking of genetic modification: No happiness means no need to worry about your subspecies being annoyed at being oppressed or anything of the such, so genemod away!
This. Although I think it was the tech the second ascension perk gives.
