It offers a variety of new extra large ships and entities to build, inspired by the Death Star and other such planet killers we are as of yet missing in the base game.
But be aware: the AI in Stellaris is actually pretty good at building most mod stuff, too, so you may face some of those doomsday weapons yourself. ^^
Pretty fun strategy:
Build your main fleets as usual.
Attack enemy empire, put everything in one system.
Have sun crusher ready to go.
Wait for the superior enemy fleet to arrive (they will, they take time).
Retreat everything you can but the sun crusher.
Boom.
(Be prepared to lose a few fleets. I had to sacrifice two fleets to ensure my sun crusher stayed alive for 15d (time to retreat my other fleets)
I cant wait to see what they do once the dlc hits ^^.
