seriously, what is this nonsense(overpowered pirates)?
Every single time I've played this game, and encountered pirates, they have had a fleet strength in the vicinity of 300 percent of my own. whatever that happens to be at the time. I'm sorry. but for pirates to develop that much of an advantage over the empire space military is just not possible. I don't care who you are, short of being a pacifist empire surrounded by empires whose people let their ships be stolen in the thousands by your dissatisfieds.

This has got to stop. I should not have to play a focused military empire and direct all development toward improving my military power JUST TO SURVIVE!

Have they ever attacked you? Because those pirates generally in my experience just stay in their systems.

Just build to max fleet strength, wipe their fleet when it enters your systems, then just system hop your construction/science ships until you find their base. Then go in and beat ass. :Blessing:

I don't believe OP is talking about those pirates, they generally aren't 300% more powerful. Rather I think OP is talking about the incredibly powerful pirates that spawn and generally stay in their systems.

Those are privateers, right? They don't generally bother anyone. Pirates are the guys who attack your stuff and if you can't counter them then you need to quit pooling minerals.

I'm not sure if they're named differently but yeah the pirates are spawned by events and can be easily crushed by 6+ corvettes but while the privateers are much more dangerous but they don't leave their system.

srsly guise
guise
srsly

SPOILER ALERT F THE SPOILER TAGS

I thought once you researched these guys it told you they were like a flotilla of displaced beings of various races forced to travel the stars in their very own Battlestar-Galactica-esque homeless fleet, which would account for their being massively more powerful than some upstart race that just learned how to tie their own bootwarps.

Yeah it does, which is why I don't understand OP's problem because I've never seen them cause any problems.

Those pirates can not leave their system. Did you even look what they do before making a whine topic so everyone can laugh at you?

the times I've bothered to read the description, it's been people who were dissatisfied living in my empire, and decided to do their own thing. aka people that should have had no chance of providing a fleet that much more powerful than mine. and this particular one that caused this post most assuredly attacked me. as in flew into two of my systems and blew up my stations.
I don't know what the hell you people are talking about. All I know is that no matter how fast I build fleet strength, no matter what I sacrifice to do so, I end up facing fleets (very early on) that are several times stronger than my own. and if it isn't hostile alien nations, it is people from my own empire gone renegade. Never encountered any 'old race' pirates.

I dunno. maybe I'm just cursed with bad luck in the games I like...

when they called privateers they dont move ...

There's two pirates. the one you are talking about are the "small" ones that the game generate as an early game threat (sometimes it's a cult, sometimes it's pirates)...

If you are really unprepared, they can cripple your expansion, but simply building up corvettes to the limit and/or using the static defenses of your starport are enough to destroy the fleet they send.

You can then try to hunf for their base and finish them, but this actually requires a significant investment to upgrade your fleet and is more an "early mid game" objective...

Yes they ARE that powerful, actually!

They get acess to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FRIGATES while WE get stuck with just corvetts.
Max fleet strength for you doesnt mean ♥♥♥♥ in the face of a station guarded by a 1.2K power fleet of 32 destroyers!

I dont care how OP it makes the player early on, Pirates should NOT be this powerful.
PERIOD!

If the pirates you're talking about are the event-spawned pirates that attack you, then you must be using a mod that does this to you. In Vanilla, those pirates never receive DDs and certainly don't have 1.2K power. I've never seen them with more than about 500-600 power, and all corvettes.

Either you're talking about the pirates who don't attack you, in which case stop crying and wait until you've built up a powerful enough fleet, then go take them out; or you've got a mod doing this to you, in which case, either disable the mod, or take it up with the mod's developers.

Pretty obvious what's happening here, being said by others.

The pirate event spawns anytime after 10 years have elapsed and spawn about 250 fleet strength of pirate ships (like 4 ships total) and slowly raid mining stations till you take out their station, which spawns somewhere in your territory. It has about 300 fleet power.

What's happening is while you search for PIRATES you're running into the scary PRIVATEER fleets that are unrelated and don't wander out of their systems. They will gladly kill anyone who wanders into theirs however.

Hope this clears things up.
