Strategic Resource

Hi All, sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm very new to this, just started my first game. I just got a tutorial quest that says I've discovered a strategic resource and to mine it. Where is this resource? I can't seem to find where it is to be able to go build a mining station on it. Is there anything I need to do in order to be able to see it? Is it in a section of the UI that I don't know about?

There are two things:
1. research the tech that shows a strategic ressource on the map (I guess that is what you actually did)
2. find that ressource on the actual map. Might very well be that there is no source of that strategic ressource in your part of the galaxy. Also there is Betharian Stone and Alien Pets, those are a special kind of special ressource, they dont show in the galaxy map but are only on habitable planets. (on a tile on that world to be more precise)
Normal strategic ressources show on Asteroids or planets like minerals/energy/sciencep points and can be harvested by building a mine/science-station over that planet

Ah ok understood, yes I must have just researched the needed tech. now just have to find that resource, but it's not on my part of the map, ok got it. Thanks very much for the help, really appreciate it!

I wonder if I could ask one more question about this? Today while playing I was congratulated by the AI helper for harvesting the strategic resource, and the tutorial quest for it disappeared from my situation log. I did not find the resource, or at least, I don't know that I did. I still don't see it on my map anywhere, nor do I see anything under my strategic resource menu in the UI. I also checked, like you said, if it was on one of my surface tiles but it isn't. What am I missing?
