Warning to New Players- Federation Victory
Watch out... only the current president at the time you meet the conditions for a Federation Victory gets the win.

Sorry to self-indulgently whine about this, but it felt really, really bad to learn that the hard way, getting rolled by this little 3-planet baby empire that I curbstomped a century earlier. It's an all important detail, but it's not mentioned in the terms for the federation victory or anywhere on the wiki.

My empire formed the federation, took over half the galaxy, defended it from the Unbidden, explored the Shroud, and yet we get the rug pulled out from under us! My first game will be forever tainted by the saltiness I feel about this.

Is the idea that they expect you to carefully hold off on achieving the conditions for the Federation Victory until you can make sure it happens while you're president? Because that would be extremely, extremely tedious. Everything about that win condition and how it's flavored implies a shared victory.

oh lord i am on the path to this right now thank yu for the heads up
My suggestion is that players should look at a federation victory by any federation member as a joint victory for all members of that federation, because the way it actually works right now is silly.

I agree completely.... every federation member hits that 60% benchmark at the same time, so why should it come down to whoever's got the meaningless president seat? it's like russian roullete.

i mean, i can view it as victory for myself if i want, but i kind of wanted the steam achievement for winning more than i thought i did

To be fair, this game was designed almost to ignore victory. I've never actually played to go for the victory condition.

Same here. Not a lot of players actually do, Federation Victory, like Me...I pretty much just integrate or conquer empires. But if say, were to do this Federation Victory for the Newgame+ idea I posted, then it really should be ironed out to all the Federation Empires, not just the 1 that was 'rotated in' for the period.

Wow...thanks for sharing. Screw that man, that sucks. I got out of my federation long ago, way too many issues

I think Adams update might fix federations, I don't know. As they stand right now though, I feel like blood purifier is the way to go.

I feel bad for you.

Never tried fed victory, but it should be shared between all members.
It feels obvious it should be a shared victory.

If you want the achievement then you've got to play the silly game of trying to time your victory to coincide with your control of the federation...for now, at least.

You've Unlocked: DUDE, WHERE'S MY FEDERATION?
(Achieved A Federation Victory Without Getting Credit For It)

Since Achievements for Stellaris are so hit-and-miss, and since there are a number of things about this great game that make people really mad, my new thing is to unlock new made-up-on-the-spot achievements for folks to cheer them up until such day as I deem it's no longer funny.

I'm a noob and I've finally got a win playing on normal with the default settings by just controlling 40% of the planets in my universe. If I had done what you did and lost because of this I'd be just as livid. Thanks for the tip OP. Not attempting a fed playthrough until it's addressed.
@Twelvefield I approve :)

I am playing in 2.0 and they still havent fixed this. My solution was to release a vassal that hated me in order to lower the planets

or uplift a primitive in the middle of your territory and form a 2 person federation with them, with the new federation president restrictions they shouldnt ever become president and just get a solo victory
