invade primative civilizations?

if i find a primative civ can i just invade or do i have to uplift and intergrate to make use of them?

You can invade them as long as your native interference is set to unrestricted, though it will cost a proportional amount of influence depending on how far they are from your territory (the same way that colonizing a planet would).

Yes you can invade them.

The Pops are subjected to a 'culture shock' debuff for a time that reduces their effectiveness. Since, you know, folks who fight with spears aren't entirely too sure how to work a mining machine.

I find that invading primitives is a great way to gain access to new planets in the early game. So if you come across an empire with another hydrosphere type just invade them and double the planets available to colonize.

invading primitives has a price, though. it's basically a ♥♥♥♥ move and you get a -50 opinion penalty with the whole galaxy that degrades by (i think) 2 points per year. if you neighbors haven't yet decided if they like you or not, invading a primitive pretty much kills your diplomatic options.

if that's a real concern, you may be better off doing it the civilized way (enlighten & integrate).

Yeah, conquest is normally expensive and time consuming but invading a primitve planet is a far easier way of getting access to pops with different planet preferences.
