They could focus on Arma 4 to release it sooner...
Regardless of it being free on consoles. The Devs are planning to keep it free on PC as well. Adjusting anything to essentially "port" it to PC takes time, and during that time they're offering an equipment pack for those who wan't to play it early on PC. Yes, the pack/DLC itself costs money, but it was also explained that the items you get in the pack gets transferred over after the EA period is over.
From what I'm reading, and applying a little common sense to, is that *the game itself* was free on consoles, and it's still going to be free when they adjust it for PC. It's only the DLC that costs, and that is for EXTRA items to get a head start once Vigor is ready for the full release.
I'm assuming that since this has only been on console before now, this pack is to give NEW players a chance to see what it's about, and in getting the pack they have the chance to score some extra gear, and be able to play a few months early to practice and get to know the game.
It's called smart marketing, and from what I've read, once the game is fully released everything is going to be wiped anyway in order to have players start at the same levels. With the purchased items being transferred over of course...and I'm pretty sure that if you're already a Vigor Vet, or don't mind spending a "bank-breaking" amount of $20 for gear to get an extra advantage after the wipe, your experience will allow you to get the same (if not more) gear than is offered anyway.
The only way I see any of this being "Forced", is if people are too damn impatient and can't wait a few more months.
Personally, I got the pack because I suck at PVP-type stuff like this, and I want to be able to practice with a decent start to learn with and not have to grind from scratch.
I've seen this same attitude on so many games now. People get excited for something and then complain when they realise they have to pay for it or complain when its early access and they have to pay for it.
The devs quite litterally said not to buy this if you don't want to buy the extra items while they test and adapt the game for PC.
Go play something else. There are plenty of other free to play games.
It's clear you are all going to play this game when it comes out anyway and then you will all complain about everything anyway because it's all you have been conditioned to do.

Hell. That's the whole reason I posted what I did.
Although to be fair, using Fortnite as an example was kind of a dead move. It's exactly the same as what people are already complaining about. Well, almost exactly.
Fortnite is a free game, like Vigor, that has different items/skins you pay money for. Yet you don't need to if you don't want to.
Same with Vigor. A free to play game with an "option" to buy item. You don't NEED to buy the pack if you don't want to. Just wait til the adjustments are made and play it for free afterwards.
*However*
Fortnite's items you pay for are generally only single items that are mainly just various skins and cosmetics for existing gear. While Vigor's pack/DLC has multiple (functional) items, "that can give an unfair advantage" if used by already experienced players - that also get transferred to your account *after* the initial wipe...as well as access to the game *early* while the Devs are still adjusting/converting it for PC.
Like I said. People are too impatient. They want things NOW (Just like Karens do), and then complain about an imagined slight, when all they have to do is wait a little and things would be fine.
And also. Unless you're living homeless in a box, $20 isn't all that much.
Early closed betas can spiral into chaos anyways, at which point the chorus was 'we paid money and this is ♥♥♥♥. It's always the same and I wish all these beacons of negativity would just ♥♥♥♥ off and download pirated games instead. Then reddit can deal with the hordes of entitled brats who become game industry guru's once a game company doesn't cave to their whim.
Lastly, I would like to say that personally I recommend it and I think you might even enjoy the game. BOHEMIA has stuck to their word and treated me more than fair as a customer. Got the supporter version (€60) which said all future DLC and expansions are included in that deal. It's a sad state of the business when you're positively surprised by a company sticking to their own, generous deal.
Compared to escape from twitchstreams, where Edge of bankruptcy version were to include all DLC and a bunch more. Many years later they're still doing minor updates and just wipes on the regular as the business model is now eternal EA and reallocated funds.
The game is fun, and somehow relaxing. Looks stunning (bu plz let me edit the engine.ini without battleeye puts an end to it)
