No idea about Unity; perhaps it has a way to filter in/out input devices at init time? Seems that virtual ones would want to be filtered out -- if that is something the program could even detect.
Shall butt out; just generally interested...
I did, there's no other devices connected - what i did notice was that my 3dconnexion, even though disconnected, still shows up as being present. It's an emulation layer that still exists even when the device is completely disconnected. I uninstalled that and now it works.. although i shouldn't have to uninstall my devices to be able to play the game, especially when steam itself had the input disabled.
Some extra info: the 3dconnexion space mouse is a mouse for maneuvering in 3d. It's originally for 3d modelling and such, but there's apparently a virtual/emulator device that makes it look like a controller/joystick, called 3Dconnexion KMJ Emulator, which showed attached even when the dongle had been physically removed,
