"Failed to read sava data" on launch and autosave
Directly after launching the game, auto saving and after changing the settings i'm getting a "failed to read save data", "failed to load data" and "failed to save data" error messages.

Inside my: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\The Legend of Korra
I have _CommonRedist, GameData, installscript.vdf, LoK.exe & steam_api.dll

Has anyone else had this problem or could anyone tell me if i'm missing a folder or file I need to add in?

Where exactly does this game store it's save files?

don't know if you still have the problem - but I just had the same problem a moment ago.
The korra folder in my documents was hidden - so when I unhid it, the game saved just fine.

You need to at least HAVE a C: drive for data, or you're screwed. Metal Gear Rising has this problem as well:

Anyone still here? I'm having the same problem as OP, adding a folder doenst seem to help at all and I don't know if it's even possible to play this game anymore

I had the same issue but found a solution which worked for me. The reason was that the Anti-Virus blocked the access to my documents folder.
So you should check your AV for restrictions.

In my case (using only Windows Defender) I did following:
  • open defender control panel
  • go to Virus & thread protection, then Ransomware protection
  • add LoK.exe (which you can find in yoursteamdirectory/SteamApps/common/The Legend of Korra/) as exception
    OR
  • disable controlled folder access (which would disable ransomware protection)

Now saving should work again!
