Couch coop, characters keep swapping. No ranger select?

Me, my husband and son have been waiting to play this but we're having problems.

I make sure I'm 1st player, I pick the blue ranger - I'm using a wireless xbox. There's no character selection expect for 1st player, unlike TMNT.

After the mission starts my son will hit X (PS5) and my husband will click A to join, now suddenly I'm 2nd player, my son is my character, and both my husband and son didn't get to pick what ranger they wanted.

Am I doing something wrong? Co op on TMNT was so easy and fun, now our characters keep changing and we can't even pick which ranger we want. :/

i'm having an issue like this but with online play. I join a match, have one controller connected and select a character. Then I'm forced to get another character... I'm so frustrated with this online game...

WE could choose the Ranger WE want
Just Hit the Join Button ob the charackter selection Screen ones, then select the charackter...easy
