What does "Mighty Morphin" mean in "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers"?
Hi,

I was wondering what "Mighty Morphin" meant in "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", so I looked it up on Wikipedia[en.wikipedia.org].

It said, 'A brainstorming among executives led to "Power Rangers", and for the specific show that would be made, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, evoking the transformation sequences'.

After reading that, I still didn't get it.

What does "Morphin" really mean here?

Thanks!

Morph (as in Morphin' or Morphing) as a verb (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/morph).

"To change the form or character of"

If you're a child of the 80s, then you realize that there were the Transformers who used the verb Transform for status changes. Even Sailor Moon changed her outfit by holding a huge love stick in the air and saying her phrase.
But since the Power Rangers weren't gay, they didn't use love sticks, they used their MORPHERS, belt buckles with power coins that connected them to their “transforming” battle robots and their battle suits. In this sense, a normal bond for MERCHANDISE :fszzz:

Did you deliberately use an apostrophe in "Morphin'"? So did you think the apostrophe here stands for "ing", and then "Morphin'" = "Morphing", but for some reason (maybe stylistic) the apostrophe was removed from the name, so "Mighty Morphin" [no apostrophe here]?

Thank you for the reply. :)

the best part was when they said "IT'S MORPHIN' TIME" and morphed all over the screen

Oh! I get it. "Morphin'" (= "Morphing") comes from "It's morphin' time", but the apostrophe has been removed from the title.

you are doing some serious projection here...
Sailor Moon used a locket, a wand was her weapon, the scouts used pens to change.
Kamen Rider normally uses a Belt (normally)
Super Sentai (Power Rangers) use various things, belts, watches, guns, all kinds of stuff to stick out from the others.
