Wings Over Europe

Couple of questions
Had a lot of fun with this and Wings over Vietnam in the day, but I seem to recall they wouldn't run under Windows 7 (might even have been Vista)? Can anyone confirm this release will work with 8.1? Are widescreen resolutions supported?

If this is the first WOE it will not run on win 7 or 8 without some tweeking of the terrain files Data. after tweeting it it will run fine, and yes their is widescreen support.

Same here - game is working fine until you end a mission - then on pressing Esc you are back to the desktop.

PC noob here, how do you install the patch to the steam?

Strike Fighters 2 Europe/Vietnam/Israel that are available from Third Wire's own store have native support for Win 7 and Vista, They are basicaly just remake's of the Wings Over -series.

You shouldnt really buy this game though if the dev cant be even bothered to make sure this is a working fully patched final version. That is just really really lazy. Give Thirdwire your money instead.

That said, SF2 is fairly overpriced.

Indeed, I thought about buying it but unless the price drops to somewhere around 10$ I stick with the old versions. I bought Wings over Vietnam the other day from amazon for 0,50$. :-D

This game actually froze my OS. I've read this and I have a question. Do i need to patch it before I try to play it again?

It also hung my win 7 64 bit install but installed the patch and seem ok but only had a couple of minutes in instant action.

I got Wings Over Europe (WOE) working today 03 MARCH 2016 on my Win7 32Bit Rig.

I noticed that the game ran fine when launched from the STEAM sub-directory on my hard drive (though exiting the game was causing issues).....but would crash as soon as I selected Instant Action or a Mission from the STEAM LIBRARY shortcuts.

Here is how I got WOE to run well from the hard drive sub-directory (NOT the Steam Library shortcut):

1. Installed the OCTOBER2006b patch mentioned earlier in this thread to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Wings Over Europe

2. Set the COMPATIBILITY MODE of the game's WOE.exe file to WinXp SP2, Disable Visual Themes, Run as Administrator....found at:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Wings Over Europe\WOE.exe

3. Created a shortcut on my desktop and the Windows Menu for the WOE.exe file found in the location mentioned in Step 2 above.

4. Launch the game from your new desktop or Windows Menu shortcuts...NOT the Steam Library shortcut (sound may be choppy in the cut-scene (still photo) as the selected INSTANT ACTION or MISSION loads, but clears up in game play).

System:

Win7 32Bit (for older software and games..I have other rigs, Win8.1, Win10, Linux Mint connected via a four port KVM switch for "other things").

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4GHz

4GB RAM

Radeon HD 5500 1GB Video Ram card

2x 2TB Hard Drives
