Vindictus: Defying Fate

Everyone please research 'Gacha' and MiHoYo games.
I'm pointing this out now, because i have a gut feeling Nexon might be designing this game with an ethos and some inspiration taken directly from the current singleplayer 'gacha' trend that Genshin Impact didn't exactly start, but caused a lot of eastern game studios to change their design trajectory's back in 2020 when Genshin Impact took over large parts of the gaming world.

I mean i'm hoping it isn't like that, but i'm seeing a handful of new games that smack of this type of design ethos, singleplayer games with high character and mechanic polish, but for 'free' - free meaning there is going to be something very central to the games core systems that is monetized; like the Characters themselves- aka: 'Gacha game'

So just keep your hype of this game guarded and whatever you might think this game is going to be, because if it ends up being a free-to-play game, it's going to be a Gacha game.

If they go for the Genshin Impact model, I'll be happy. Genshin Impact let's you spend a lot of money, but overall it's rather fair.

Please research the original Vindictus.
You needed spend a lot of money on "runes" that would prevent your weapon from breaking when you enhance it - which was a necessity to be able to join certain boats as these usually were restricted by the community. Then there was additional enhancement, that couldn't be protected. It it went wrong, the weapon/armor would break and just be lost (you got back some minor materials, but well). Chances were abysmal.
You also need to enchant you gear - and for higher level enchantments, it would break you armor/weapon as well if you didn't have runes from the cash shop.
One rune goes for about 5eur, you need 2 scrolls per armor piece, 5 armor pieces, 1 weapon, 5 accessories. No chance in hell, all scrolls or enchantments will succeed on 1st try.
Genshin Impact just gives you bad rolls on stats, it doesn't destroy your equipment.

There are costumes that start at around 20eur, certain other costumes are in random boxes with a drop chance of about 2%. Meaning on average, players expected to need 300-600eur to get the desired outfit.

There was more, but it was still alright. It was far more nefarious than what Mihoyo does as it doesn't hinder your progress. Tbf, You could always play Vindictus without +13 weapons and it's really easy to gather event stuff to get there nowadays. Vindictus was very skill-based and the bosses where designed so you would always be able to fight with lower stats too. But Nexon knows how to monetize. We'll see what they will do. I expect monetization, as long as it doesn't reset your progress or make you grind for 6 months on useable armor, it will be alright.

Honestly...The genshin impact model sounds/is 100x better than w.e. the hell model Nexon has been cookin for the past 20 years.

Over the years they added alot of systems (defenses, cc resists) to the bosses and additional stats that made fighting them with lower stats an absolute chore if not downright im....probable.

its going to be f2p, p2w like original. Genshin sells character gatcha not outfits, entirely different beast and when done right like in star rail is actually pretty f2p friendly and not cancerous as all characters are viable for all content. Reality is gatcha done right is best possible system for f2p games aside from warframe system that shows everyone you can eat the cake and have the cake and takes crown of best f2p model.

LOL I WISH THEY WOULD COPY GACHAS. ♥♥♥♥. I've literally played a big gacha game that didn't have a pity system implemented until it's like 7th anniversary and even then that game's monetization is way better than whatever the hell nexon has been cooking.

You guys would be very surprised if you play Vindictus today.
You can play any character you want. No praying for Pity and re-rolling accounts.
Every skill is unlocked and every potential is available. No gacha constellation paywall.
You gain the best weapon by actually playing the game and participating in event... not paying for weapon gacha.
The best waifu is also 100% viable in any end game content, never relegated to "lol-4star-collection/support-only"
