Is there any canon (according to the plot of the game) walkthrough order? Or campaign is just a bunch of separate stories?

I think (has been a long time since I played) these are just separate stories. You can play whatever you want first. (just like the second one)

You can carry forward 1 hero and 3 objects after each part of a campaign. Each campaign is stand alone from other campaigns.

The campaigns are seperate stories that lead to the same place in the final mission. They could be viewed as standalone but they are interconnected to each other as a whole. It doesn't matter which race you start but if you want the full picture of what's happening you'll want to play all of them eventually. For anyone that's played the second game (that summarizes stuff in this game) playing this will actually let you really know what was going on.

Been a while but remember beating this on the hardest difficulty, which was quite the challenge.
