X3: Reunion

X3: Reunion

Stick with it or Skip it!
I've had X3 reunion for some time, and I've been enjoying it. I found playing as a trader was eaiser after I started the main campaign because you get alot of money early on and it is thus easier to fill your mecury hauler with tons of goods. The question is that is the campaign alone worth it to play entirely through Reunion, or should I quit and jump to Albion Prelude. The reason why I ask, is because I was hesitant to get AP because it required Terran Conflict and the price of both of them together is sort high for me. I did miss the opportunity to get it at the last major sale because there were so many other games that were much more important for me to get. As I said, I've already started the campaign and been having lots of fun with it.

However, I really feel the urge to drop Reunion and pick up the other two expansions to start AP. The reason is it I feel it is hard to make money early in the game in Reunion, and I feel that AP would just open the door with so many more things, like faction missions, a stock exchange, and even a player's hq. On top of that there are so many cool mods out there for the game that are only available for Albion Prelude. With that said, the only reason I see for me to stick with Reunion is to get through the campaign.

So:

Is the campaign good enough to warrant sticking with Reunion and denying me access to AP until I am done, or will it not be missed if I skip the entire Reunion campaign. What do you think?

I was just about to make a similar post; so instead I will sub to yours.

One though for you...how about Terran Conflict? Dont you want to play that too for the campaign?

What I believe is that you can play the Terran Conflict campaign in Albion Prelude
X3 Reunion runs at 150 FPS on ultra.
X3 Albion Prelude runs on 50 FPS on medium.
X Rebirth runs on 50 FPS on low.

If there's something X3 Reunion has over other X games, it's certainly performance.

FPS on my computer is not a problem. I run Skyrim ans other high intesity games with ultra settings and fully modded, so yeah since those games came out sevral years ago, I don't think it would have any impact of performance on computer. Anyway, fps or performance has nothing to do with what I was asking.

That's because Reunion is the oldest of the X3 series

XRebirth is a different game & a new engine

What happened between X3 Reunion and Terran Conflict is a change in shaders.
X3 Reunion has old X2-like shaders, which are static.
In X3 Terran Conflict and newer, they are not static, and if a ship is passing by a station, you will see the shadow of that ship on that station.
This makes it lag much more.
It's not about X3 Reunion being older, graphically it's the very very same thing as X3 Albion Prelude, except for that absolutely useless, yet demanding shader.

This post i not about a comparison betrween games, nor is it about the graphics. It is a question I had about story and gameplay and NO ONE seems to be answering the question I posed. Instead EVERYONE is talking about everything else. PLEASE: If you are going to reply, answer the damned question.

Yes I was hoping for an answer to your question too
I'd say stick with Reunion.
Then jump on Terran Conflict as the master.

The requirements for Reunion on the store page are less than TC & AP
I guess that's the shader

Besides, once I am ready go beyond Reunion, I will be going straight to Albion Prelude which has the Terran Conflict storyline in it anyway. Thaks.

An update on the issue of performance between the X3 games for anyone interested
Apparently TC & AP require more processing power than Reunion because there are are many more sectors and scripts running in them; and AP also has a war script running.

I think I will go ahead and complete the Reunion story...and then decide re TC &AP.

That's not true - X3 Reunion with mods can have significantly more sectors than X3TC, without ANY impact on performance.

What I wrote is correct.
AP & TC require more processing power than Reunion.

Yes, but they look exactly same. What happened? Yes, the requirements are higher, but that is NOT the answer.
Also, with mods X3 Reunion can have more ships, scripts and sectors than X3AP, yet it still runs significantly better!
