Someone explain rebooting to me
This just doesn't seem either efficient or particularly effective.

I have currently a once-rebooted Crimson Bestia (epic). At L11, the second stage required for further reboot, stats are 21 Atk, 41 Health, 33 single target damage upon spawn, and +6 boost to Atk when ally faction attacks. Decent stats for an epic. I spent roughly 837 cards to level her that far (from level one, 1* reboot). To "advance" to a 2* reboot, stats would drop to 10/39 with a +35 spawn hit. Very, very minor improvement in one stat, and overall huge loss. I've spent so many cards to get to this point, even with the reduced leveling cost I can't imagine being able to even get back to where I was, let alone further improve. Seems like a huge waste, and I don't see the advantage. What am I missing?

Reboot lets you upgrade abilities to a higher value more than simply levelling them could. Also, when you reboot, you get the same (at 1st reboot), or slightly less (2nd reboot onward) initial stats at level 1 as when you rebooted, but you can level up the unit with fewer cards after reboot than if you continued levelling without reboot and overall still get a stat increase by the time you reach the same level again. Also rebooting and the re-levelling with fewer cards lets you complete event quests easier. So it is best to not reboot or level legendary until events.

Let me summarize and see if I get it. You receive bonus attributes when leveling after a reboot? Or at least able to reach a cap faster due to the component discount. That part I knew but the rest puts it into perspective. Thank you

Yes you get huge ability boost when upgrading. For example, Regina if you don't reboot you only get +2 to heal commander the next level up, but reboot gives you +10

What events are you talking about?

Military Exercise asking you to level each faction of units 30 times, and also 20 times each for Rare, Epic and Legendary units.

Also the event yesterday for levelling legendary units 60+ times.

When do you get reboots?

For legendary characters ? At level 6, 11, 16,...
But ideally you should reboot them only if you have enough points to level them 2 levels above that, that way you don't get a character temporarily weaker
