Giant Bomb's Worst Game of 2014 Winner
As we scoured Steam for games to Quick Look, we came across a reminder that it wasn’t just big-budget triple-A games that were busted this year. Ghostship: Aftermath tries to ape the spooky space vibe of Alien and Event Horizon, but instead offers up the glitchiest, most tedious experience of the year.

Every element of the game reeks of low-budget slapdashery, from the laughable voice-over work to the unlicensed use of actual Coke and Pepsi logos. It tries to keep the action fresh as the entire ship is randomly generated between deaths, but this means having to listen to the same unskippable cutscenes time and time again. If you can survive long enough to get to the actual shooting, keep an eye out for the manic, walking butts that randomly clip through every part of the environment.

The NonVR launch version had many problems and bugs, I would love to think of what they make of 1.7 :)

Sweet, lets put "Award winning game!" on the store page :) Glass half-full ftw! I do hope they send the award in trophy form.

So Do I :)

There is not many people out there who have made a game all by themselves! And to get get a trophy for it too is awesome :)

I think they got it wrong! Ghostship aftermath should be 2nd worse game of 2014, CDF Ghostship should take the trophy for the worst game!

That way the greedy dev can get 2 trophies!
The fact the developer thinks its funny to get this award for shipping a broken game and charging people money for it, speaks volumes. The defense that the latest patch fixes some issues is invalid considering the laughable voice-over work, unlicensed use of Coke and Pepsi logos, broken controls and AI. In a year of broken games and nightmare releases this is the cherry on the ♥♥♥♥ slope that games are on at the moment.

This comment will probably be deleted because i said something negative..... sad

Its a good job there are many people playing enjoying this game, and to some this is one of the best games of 2014. There have been numerous updates, the latest one fixes up even more. the fact this video is from the launch version is what is funny if you play the game today.

Almost everything in that video has been put right, improved and more features introduced.

I will not delete your post, your opinions are your own which you have made clear, the same as as a "gaming web site". However I would like them and you to remove the part about the logos as it insinuates we did something illegal instead of using nominative use.

It's funny because the game currently looks nothing like what they played. They also wouldn't know whether the logos were licensed or not as they did not inquire about it. The logos were used according to the nominative use doctrine of trademark law. The author of the article simply confused the trademarks with copyrights. Trademark law is Title 15 U.S. Code Chapter 22, read up on it if you don't believe me.

But, we're not the sort to sue for defamation and libel even if we did win worst game of the year, so the editor is simply receiving a friendly email informing them of the mistake.

I'm sorry that we're being cool about all of this, I know people are expecting us to rage and throw fits, talk about how BS the award is and I think people are actually upset that the developer kept working on the game and making it better instead of running away from the project like others would have done.

In the end we presented the game in an open and honest manner, made every attempt to correct mistakes, and whether anyone believes it or not hired a professional actor who's been on numerous television shows to do the voice acting. If that's not good enough then all I can say is sorry.

CDF Ghostship was not a contender because it's an Early Access game, and the only category they had that include EA games was "Best Early Access Experience".

I get it if someone plays a game for 1, 2 or even 5 hours and doesn't like it. But I've got to ask you KnifeJuggler. If you dislike CDF Ghostship so much, how did you manage to force yourself to play it for 23.2 hours? I think you secretly like it, and that you also like stirring the pot. ;-)

I just saw the GB video & came to see this game...hahaha...man. They probably weren't looking hard enough for crappy games though...even failures can help you grow, so I wouldn't count it as a loss.

Edit: At the same time I was abhorred that GB nominated Shadows of Mordor as game of the year when I thought it would be Dragon Age: Inquisition.

I stilll have hope for this game, since I am a big fan of the Alien films and this game has some Dead Space-like concept. The genre is what i like the best, I don't care about the graphics since i have a lowend PC anyways, and after all im gonna try this!
