Followers needs are not met, cannot ascend...What?

I am trying to start a brewery and a Cow farm, I have more than enough mushrooms to ascend followers, I have met all the needs I can, (for some reason the re-educator isn't meeting their needs, does it work like the elder temple?), I cannot figure out what I am not doing. I was able to ascend 1 follower for the brewery, but I have SO many more followers and mushrooms that will not ascend.

It's pretty frustrating. What am I missing?

I had the same problem today, Check the needs of your ascension candidates. Click their houses and see if everything is fulfilled. Like clams, robes, if their house is in reach of a temple, reeducator, etc

Yes. Their houses need to be in range of it, if the green path doesn't reach the house then it wont count.

If it is in range though I've no idea why that doesn't work as that's never happened to me.
